FAISALABAD: Experts at a seminar emphasized the need to eliminate single-use plastic to mitigate its adverse effects on the environment and protect citizens from diseases such as cancer. The event, organized under the Punjab Green Development Program by the Provincial Environment Protection and Climate Change Department in collaboration with the World Bank, focused on “The Environmental and Health Impacts of Single-Use Plastic.”

Speakers included Dr. Syed Waqas Ahmed from the University of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Salma Shahid from GC University Faisalabad, and Dr. Tahir Shehzad from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. They discussed the harmful effects of single-use plastics, urging citizens to adopt reusable cloth bags and reduce the usage of unnecessary plastic products that contribute to environmental pollution.

Dr. Anbar Raheel, Director of the Environment Protection Department, highlighted the ongoing campaign to raise public awareness about the harmful impacts of single-use plastics on health and the environment. She said the initiative aims to foster a sense of responsibility among citizens and encourage sustainable practices.

The seminar was attended by stakeholders from various sectors, including plastic producers, wholesalers, students, media representatives, civil society organizations, government departments, and traders.
