PTEA Hails STAR Network’s Recognition as UN Climate Charter Partner, Pledges Stronger Climate Action in Textile Sector

FAISALABAD: The Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) has congratulated the Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region (STAR) Network on being recognized as an official Supporting Organization of the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, convened by the United Nations Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The STAR Network, of which PTEA is an active member, represents a unique inter-regional alliance of garment producer associations from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Its new status underscores Asia’s collective ambition to build a more sustainable and climate-resilient garment, footwear, and textiles (GFT) sector.
PTEA Chairman Sohail Pasha said the recognition reflects the STAR Network’s role in amplifying manufacturers’ voices and positioning them as key stakeholders in shaping a climate-conscious global fashion industry. He stressed that the initiative aligns with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, adding that the alliance would advance efforts on renewable energy adoption, net-zero targets, and circular business models.
“The STAR team’s commitment to sustainability and collaborative action highlights our region’s readiness to lead the green transition,” Pasha noted.
By joining the Charter, the STAR Network is expected to enhance advocacy on behalf of nearly 35,000 manufacturers across Asia, ensuring their perspectives are represented in global climate dialogues. The alliance also aims to scale up best practices, provide technical support, and accelerate decarbonization in supply chains.
Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Chairman of the STAR Network and Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), called the recognition a “significant milestone,” emphasizing that it would allow Asian suppliers to engage more closely with global stakeholders and promote inclusive and equitable climate solutions.
Sovichea Saron, Head of the STAR Secretariat, expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen collaboration with brands, amplify supplier perspectives, and drive practical climate solutions that enhance resilience and long-term competitiveness.
